Job Description


Position: Facility and Professional ED Coder

Contract Duration: 3 months, with the primary objective of addressing a backlog. This is a contract role with the possibility of extension, but not intended for temporary-to-permanent transition.

Experience Requirements:
  • Extensive experience in coding for outpatient emergency departments (ED).
  • Proficiency in professional ED coding.
  • Experience with pediatric coding is highly desirable.

Systems Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in using 3M encoder software.
  • Familiarity with Allscripts electronic health record system.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and accurately code all outpatient emergency department records, ensuring compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.
  • Apply facility and professional ED coding principles to all records.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and other coders to clarify documentation and coding queries, ensuring precise and comprehensive coding.
  • Utilize 3M and Allscripts systems effectively to manage and code records.
  • Participate in regular audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance with established standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Stay updated on the latest coding guidelines and best practices, especially those related to pediatric emergency care.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology and anatomy related to emergency care.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret clinical documentation and assign accurate codes.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with healthcare providers and team members.
  • Proficiency in using coding software and electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development in medical coding.
